This year’s Foster & Kinship Care Week will run from September 8-15.
Agencies will be hosting events in communities right around NSW throughout this special week to honour the extraordinary carers who bring love, stability and hope to the lives of children and young people in care.
The celebrations will open in Western Sydney on September 8 with the annual carer picnic day, which is being hosted this year by My Forever Family, with support from ACWA and out-of-home care agencies. If you would like to help out as a volunteer on the day, please contact us at ACWA: firstname.lastname@example.org
During Foster & Kinship Care Week, ACWA will be hosting a Kinship Care Forum featuring kinship care expert Dr Lucy Peake, who heads up United Kingdom charity Grandparents Plus. This forum, which will take place in Sydney on September 9, will explore models of support for relative/kin carers, as well as strategies for raising awareness and influencing policy around this growing and critical form of out-of-home care. Contact Sharon Broady for more information: email@example.com
Dr Peake’s visit is part of a national ‘shared learning’ tour organised by ACWA, which commences in Hobart on August 26. Check our website for dates and locations.
