ACWA Announces ‘Shared Learning’ Visit by International Kinship Care Expert

Following on from last year’s ‘Kinship Care: Making it a National Issue’ roundtable event, ACWA is excited to announce that we have invited Dr Lucy Peake, CEO of Grandparents Plus, to visit Australia later this year for a ‘shared learning’ tour.

Grandparents Plus is a national charity based in the United Kingdom that focuses on supporting all kinship carers.

During late August and early September, Dr Peake will participate in forums and workshops around the country where she will not only share her own experience in raising awareness, influencing strategy and delivering evidence-based approaches to supporting kinship carers, but also learn about local approaches and challenges in this critical area of care.

Dr Peake is also confirmed to run joint workshop presentations with Dr Meredith Kiraly (University of Melbourne) at both the National Foster and Kinship Care Conference in Perth (September 5-7), and the Australian Social Policy Conference at UNSW in Sydney (September 9-11).

In addition to Western Australia and New South Wales, Dr Peake is scheduled to visit Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.

Forum locations and dates are still being finalised but information will be published as it becomes available on ACWA’s website: www.acwa.asn.au
