The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) welcomes the appointment of Gareth Ward as Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services, under the new-look Cabinet announced by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian this week.
CEO Steve Kinmond said ACWA, and the non-government sector as a whole, is eager to work closely with Minister Ward and other key stakeholders to help deliver the best possible outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and families in NSW.
“With the state’s child protection system presently in the midst of comprehensive reform, there has never been a more important time for government and non-government organisations to be working together to ensure the implementation of effective solutions that will keep children safe and support families to stay together,” Mr Kinmond said.
“We look forward to joining Mr Ward and other players at the table during this critical period of change to make sure we get it right.”
Mr Kinmond also extended his thanks, on behalf of the sector, to retiring Minister Pru Goward for her tireless work and dedication in the Family and Community Services portfolio.
The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies is the NSW peak body representing non-government organisations that provide services to vulnerable children, young people and their families.
