The 2018 Family Matters Week of Action begins on Monday, May 14.
The Week of Action is an annual opportunity to shine a light on the 17,000+ Aboriginal kids in the child protection system across the country.
It’s a time to remind our politicians as well as everyday members of the public that it’s not acceptable for child protection authorities to remove Aboriginal kids from their families 10 times more than non-Indigenous children. But it’s also a time for optimism, because promising solutions exist to build a better system based on self-determination.
AbSec is offering funding for local community events supporting the goals of Family Matters in NSW. There are sponsorships of up to $500 up for grabs for people, groups or organisations hosting local events throughout NSW during the Week of Action from 14 to 20 May. Apply by completing the application form and returning by email to: admin@absec.org.au by 5pm on Friday 20 April.
You can help during the big week (14-20 May) by:
- Sharing messages on social media: Family Matters is on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
- Getting your organisation, family and friends to sign up to our Family Matters campaign group: Join the NSW Family Matters Collective here.
- Hosting a local event to raise awareness of the over-representation of Aboriginal kids in the child protection system, and promote the Family Matters goals!
