ACWA staff enjoyed a wonderful day out at the annual carer picnic day, which was held at the University of Western Sydney’s Bankstown Campus on September 8.
Hundreds of carers and their children turned out for a laughter-filled day of rides, games, food, music and family time.
This year’s event, which was hosted for the first time by My Forever Family, marked the perfect start to this year’s Foster & Kinship Care Week, which honours the incredible contribution that carers make in our community.
ACWA provided support by coordinating volunteers and the barbecue lunch, with staff pitching in alongside our member organisations who were managing stalls, registrations and activities for carers and the children in their care. The Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services, Gareth Ward, was on hand to carry out the opening formalities, before making his way around the ground to chat with picnic goers.
Key messaging and promotional videos commissioned by My Forever Family, expressing appreciation for our many current carers while highlighting the need for more to come on board, helped capture the essence of the day.
ACWA extends a huge thanks to our volunteers from across the government and non-government sectors, who worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure a happy day was had by all.
