Strategic Planning Session: Shaping the Future of ACWA & CCWT
On December 12, 2024, a strategic planning session was held for ACWA/CCWT, which was facilitated by Melissa Kaltner and Mark Galvin from Lumenia. The session brought together 21 participants, including members of the ACWA Board, the leadership team, and representatives from various member organisations.
The Key Participants
The session was a collaborative effort with a wide array of perspectives, as participants came from organisations that had nominated members to join the Strategy Working Group (SWG). These included Allambi Care, Barnardos, Family Spirit, Key Assets, Life Without Barriers, Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn, OzChild and Wesley Mission. Though SDN Children’s Services and Settlement Services International couldn’t attend, their input was acknowledged and their ongoing contributions to the group remain valued.
Purpose of the Session
The primary aim of this strategic planning session was to establish the overall direction for ACWA/CCWT over the next two years. This followed up on the results of a staff and member planning survey conducted in November. The intention was to begin the process of creating a clear and actionable roadmap, ensuring that both ACWA/CCWT continue their mission to support the community service system in achieving outcomes for children and their families and communities in NSW.
Engaged and Insightful Discussion
The session was a dynamic and highly engaging experience. Participants were encouraged to tap into their creativity and offer innovative ideas. One of the most inspiring moments of the day was when attendees were asked to imagine a future news headline that reflected the impact ACWA would have in the coming years. This exercise led to some reflections on the difference the organisation can make working alongside the community services sector to make a difference for children and young people.
One key takeaway from the day was the value of diverse perspectives coming together. Participants hailed from different roles, organisations, and regions across NSW, yet there was an overwhelming sense of unity in their vision for the future. Despite the differences in their professional backgrounds and experiences, everyone shared a deep commitment to the welfare and thriving of children and young people across the state.
The Road Ahead
Following this session, ACWA Board, staff and the Strategy Working Group will now work collaboratively to develop specific strategies to turn these ideas and discussions into tangible actions. These strategies will serve as the guiding framework for the organisation’s activities in the coming years.
